if that island of the club is a circuit

about

this song is about racism. i feel like i'm infringing on black culture by rapping in my songs. but the thing is, i'm approaching this as an artist, which reminds me that black people probably don't feel like i'm infringing, at least not to the extent that they're gonna focus on it and it's gonna ruin their week. within that is the fact that "race" is connected to pigmentation. pigmentation. i'll come back to that. words trip me up. i can tell you this: the probability that a darker-skinned person is objectively cooler than a lighter-pigmented person, is actually probably true. i mean, come on. i'm the lighter-type of, and that's a weird trip. the reason is actual though. it's deep and also easy. i'll give the easy: marginalized people can relate, and with income disparity being what it is, observe: the 1% are probably like still majority lighter-pigment? am i finding the path? how rich are the saudis? the israelis? you're in my realm now, but i can still think of deep cuts. thing is i'm here to heal. look at the abuser and see the abuser is itself broken, which is no excuse to allow further abuse of course..

lyrics

check it out, woman

what the balance is?

ain’t that the herns?

that island got a flub
it’s a foreign land

i was at the club
ain’t you gonna tell me
if i can’t be
of of the dance

it’s like
it’s the island of the club
you deserve it

you’re my girl and you’re my dessert

[untranscribed freestyling]

and i’ll trill ya down the block
when the smell’s fallin
haul ya into my warm apartment
and i’ll paw paw paw paw around your heart
aw so nice
so nice the beat
damn, and the hook
you’re booked in the jail of me
it’s called whiff trophy
heard
damn, get with that shit

break it back in on ya
brain like an egg
no don’t reneg on me
i’m just playin on words
i had some beautiful things i said earlier
playin on words
but they weren’t recorded to the tape
like i had my hand
now i’m just losin my face on it again
burnt
cause i be pokin that ant hill
bright, shiny in the sun
magnifying glass
everybody’s just here to have fun
but i’m talking about bright and darker things
chess
polarity
and the thing is it doesn’t mean anything
poke poke poke
cause it’s just manifestations of beauty
different from each other
but all the same from the place they came from right
s’what i’m sayin
heard scratched it up
ditto right
tied down
black and white on paper
clamped
oh that was the thing mightier than the sword
we can all be clamped
don’t get bored with the whiff trophy
chains
don’t even think i’m a racist cause i know i am
even the words that we say
so you should know you are too right
cause i was born in this culture
heard
maybe i could put it down on the mic this time
this time
i have complex thoughts on this thing
cause i’ve been told to believe a certain way
due process of mind
and the thing is i don’t believe that certain way i’ve been taught
word
but still the narrative repeats in my head like
beep beep beep
word
sting em up string em up
yeah
i’m not gonna go that far
supposed to hurt
but yall it does go there
supposed to be ashamed
we’ve all been there together right
let’s move on then
everything’s positive huh
how could you turn your meanness all on another man
every man is a beauty
if you ever go down there beware of tryin to live in
how much money you got
i dunno
i know it’s like fighting sometimes
i mean let’s talk about systematic racism and white privilege huh
it’s about that fightin sometimes
you got enough white money to live in south california huh
“I Am” fighting “Sometimes”
i dunno what kinda girl are ya
and could you be my lady
could you be my lover, maybe
let me step back and rap bout some people i know
i’m lost man
i’m not trying to distract ya with the flow
i’m just trying to spill my heart on this part of time and life right
um nobody gonna hear it
but peace
damn there goes the beat
cut

there’s a lot more
